Para la OMS, la transexualidad ya no es una enfermedad mental
La nueva clasificación incluye como trastrono la adicción a los juegos digitales.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) publicó este lunes la nueva clasificación de enfermedades que llevará al debate en la asamblea general del organismo el año que viene. La ICD-11, el nombre de la clasificación, tiene, como una de sus principales novedades, que saca la "incongruencia de género" -la transexualidad- de la clasificación de las enfermedades mentales, y lo deja dentro del capítulo de las disfunciones sexuales. Es decir, pierde la categoría de trastorno psicológico para quedarse en una cuestión física: la falta de adecuación del cuerpo al género que siente la persona.
La decisión de la OMS es considerada por las asociaciones de afectados clave para intentar la normalización de sus vidas, igual que fue la despatologización de la homosexualidad en 1990. Con esta decisión se evita dar justificaciones a quienes intentan curar o tratar la transexualidad, lo que supone una agresión para las personas de esta condición y es causa de discriminación y violencia.
"En un mundo de 7.400 millones de personas que hablan 7.000 idiomas, el ICD [código internacional de enfermedades] ofrece una definición común para registrar, informar y monitorizar", indica la organización en su web.
La despatologización de la transexualidad, por ejemplo, ayudaría a agilizar el proceso de acomodo a su género real de las personas transexuales. por ejemplo, en países como España, la ley actual exige un diagnóstico psicológico para iniciar los procedimientos médicos correspondientes. Al dejar de considerar la disconformidad de género como una enfermedad mental, este paso carecerá de sentido.
Además, la nueva clasificación incluye otros aspectos, como la adicción a los juegos. También simplifica la definición del estrés postraumático y refuerza los controles de los microorganismos resistentes, otra de las amenazas de la salud mundial.
